Kayak/Canoe Poker Run
Fundraiser |

|
New Rochelle Rowing Club will be holding our 3rd Annual Kayak/Canoe Poker Run Fundraiser.
What is a Poker Run?
A Poker Run is not a race, it is a friendly competition that can be done with motorcycles, ATV’s, Boats and Kayaks. Ours will be with kayaks and canoes.
Definition: A Poker Run is an organized event where Kayaks/Canoes travel over a prescribed course and at designated stopping points, select a card. At the end of the run, the person with the best poker hand wins a prize. Poker Runs usually require a fee to enter with a part of the proceeds going to charity. Some runs are done from bar to bar but in the interest of safety, don't recommend these. The rules for Poker Runs vary depending on the event.
The run will take place on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 (rain date Aug 3rd). Registration will begin at 9:00am at the New Rochelle Rowing Club. At this time, paddlers will complete registration forms and will be given a complete set of rules. The Poker Run will begin at 10:00 am. All participants will be instructed to stop at 5 checkpoints located at various locations on the Long Island Sound. Each participant will draw a card at each checkpoint in order to achieve the best poker hand. This year’s Poker Run course will be as follows: (subject to change)
NRRC Glenn Island Huckleberry Island (refreshments will be available) 5 Island Park Pine Island
The winner with the best poker hand will win a 1st place prize. Since several decks may be used, a tie hand is possible. In the case of a tie hand, the two participants will be dealt a new hand by an independent third party. Additional rules required “On the Spot” will be determined by the officials on hand. All decisions by these officials will be final. Other prizes and gifts will also be awarded at a picnic on Pine Island. Hamburgers, hot dogs, beer and soda will be served! |
